What a strange and conflicting time to be a physician recruiter. Some physicians are busier than ever while others are sitting at home nervously waiting. The same story repeats for physician recruitment offices around the country, some are continuing to source candidates, provide virtual interviews and hire physicians while others are suffering through hiring freezes and furloughs.
It is a waiting game for those of you sitting on the bench at this time. Assuming your leader approves, you can spend some time doing the behind the scenes work you never have time for during normal circumstances. Things like cleaning up the CRM, deleting old CVs and files, maybe you have a dusty file cabinet that you haven’t opened in a few years. It is a great time to read and study and just get better at what you do.
If your organization is continuing to recruit this is a golden opportunity. Busy physicians who normally don’t have the time to think about job prospects and recruiter emails now have time on their hands. The bottom line is despite the challenges we are facing it is still a good time to be recruiting physicians.
Over the past two months we have found it important to acknowledge the fact that it is a strange and scary time to be a physician. Be sympathetic, and then share that if the timing is right you have an interesting practice opportunity for them.
The honest truth is that nobody knows the future. Healthcare has been hit particularly hard and the comeback is going to be a challenge. There will come a time, hopefully sooner rather than later, when we see life return to normal. Keeping things moving from a sourcing perspective only makes sense. Candidates have more time now than they ever have to look at your opportunities and consider a change.
