This Christmas was about family and spending time together in person. What a significant change from this time last year. My husband and I hosted Christmas dinner this year. I have always enjoyed having my in-laws share stories. Discovering our family “roots” created some new descriptors of “who” the Kent’s are – driven, hardworking, and committed to this country. Our family story has become more defined and distinct. This led me to spend a little time thinking about how that relates to physician recruiting.

Is recruiters it is always good to have a few good stories. What does your organization’s story tell physician recruits? If you were to research and describe your organization’s history, would that communicate, in a more interesting way, the current mission and vision? Has the organization’s journey triggered changes in your culture? And is today’s strategy working to retain its roots while adapting as needed for the new world?

Here are a few tips to help you tell your organization’s story.

  1. Display Transparency – Walkthrough how your mission and vision has led the organization through a crisis, whether a tornado or the COVID-19 crisis, show how your organization effectively responded.
  2. Celebrate Your Resilience – Change your approach and show current photos of your front-line nurses, doctors, and staff working together.
  3. Increase Your Presence on Social Media – Begin to ask your employees to show how they support their colleagues. You can work with your chamber on virtual content that shares how your community works together. Create pre-record segments with key community members through Zoom and other technologies to share their personal stories and provide a link for your new recruits to watch.

These are just a few ideas and of course there are many more. Do some research and see how you can enrich your recruitment story. You may find some new ways to define and distinguish your hospital and opportunities to prospective recruits. Putting an emphasis on your story and how best to “sell” it will lead to more successful recruiting.
