In healthcare, the sales process occurs in small increments with the prospect expressing on going interest for moving the relationship forward. Layer clinical and organization value with their desired outcomes. Get people involved and then let the physician see how they can be a part of the process.  Once they can see themselves in your process, you have earned the referral.
