Field staff have such an “always on” role. There is internal scrutiny coupled with the need to impress discerning referring physicians, and just getting to them is a whole different discussion!  It’s easy to fall into routines that feel safe and habits that sometimes fail to get all the results we want. Is the current approach enough?  Are we maximizing our talent and effectiveness in the role?

With our next Destination Training (March 12 and 13 in Amelia Island, FL) coming up, I am reminded of conversations with many of our past attendees. Their reasons for attending generally fall into one of these three categories. See if any of these topics hit home for you.

  • A Little Motivation: Sometimes, we need a boost. If you’ve ever felt stuck or needed a nudge, you’re not alone. Working independently can make it easy to settle into a groove, but learning new approaches can spark ideas and momentum. Self-motivation is tricky, isn’t it? Safe group settings are a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the role, the techniques and your own personal development.
  • “It’s not working… I can’t get in… I don’t have enough new things to discuss.” These sentiments speak to the need for new techniques, messaging and approaches to create an elevated level of impact. Field staff value interaction that includes both trainer insights and peer contributions, covering topics like handling gatekeepers and using benefit-focused language in conversation.
  • More Confidence in Advancing Relationships. Physician relations staff often have sales experience, but advancing clinical conversations can require a different process. Couple that with an audience that is not very forgiving, and many find themselves spending too much time with staff, and not enough with the referring physician. Training provides succinct processes for advancing the relationship, but also for setting expectations for the organization.

For many of us, learning fills our bucket. Sometimes, just one new idea or a fresh perspective can have an amazing impact. If you’re feeling ready, please reach out. There are so many options including destination training, conferences, coaching, onsite strategy and training. Choices are good!
