But it’s in the moments of pressure, when things feel uncertain or even overwhelming, that a mid-level leader’s true strength is tested.

  2. Name What You Feel: “I feel pressure to move quickly,” or “I feel frustrated.” Naming separates emotion from reaction.
  3. Ask: What Do They Need From Me? Your team may need reassurance. Your executives may need clarity. Your peers may need collaboration. Choose the response that builds trust.

Over time, this habit becomes second nature. And with it, your presence transforms from reactive to reliable.

Growing Influence from the Middle

When you consistently show presence under pressure, you not only steady your team, you elevate yourself in the eyes of peers and senior leaders.
